On the surface San Zhi make the kind of hazy, dreamlike pop that everyone with access to a keyboard, some effects pedals and an internet connection seems to be making. It’s all faraway vocals and spacious, elongated melodies. But there’s something very special about the sky-scraping Ice Light, the duo’s debut single. Built around their dual lead vocals, the song starts with a minimal drum beat and an undulating guitar figure before the first verse slowly careens into the gargantuan chorus, which arrives like an iceberg breaking through the fog.
